Thane: A catastrophic industrial accident unfolded on Thursday afternoon when a boiler explosion ripped through Amudan Chemical Company in Dombivali’s MIDC area, Phase II. The force of the blast triggered a massive fire that engulfed the factory and spread to nearby facilities.
Tragic Toll and Extensive Damage
The devastating incident claimed the lives of seven individuals, with a further 48 people sustaining injuries. Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Targeted Disaster Response Force (TDRF), and the fire department, are working tirelessly at the scene. The explosion’s impact was far-reaching, causing cracks to appear in windows and damaging houses within a 5-kilometer radius.
Swift Response and Ongoing Efforts
Civil Defense Officer Bimal Nathwani, who felt the building tremble from 1.5 kilometers away, recounted the immediate response: “We initiated rescue operations as soon as the blast occurred. Sadly, we have retrieved seven bodies thus far.”
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and confirmed the ongoing medical treatment for the injured at AIIMS, Neptune, and Global Hospitals. He assured continued support and wished for a speedy recovery for all those affected.
