Ranchi: In a move to foster diversity and inclusion, Tata Steel has announced that it will hire transgender candidates for various positions in the company. The steel giant said that it has invited applications from transgender candidates for different posts across its locations, as part of its efforts to break the stigma and bring transgender people into the mainstream.

The company said that it aims to create an inclusive environment in the workplace, where everyone is respected and valued. Tata Steel said that it is taking initiatives to integrate transgender employees into the mainstream of society by providing them with opportunities and training.

The last date for filing applications is February 15, 2024. The shortlisted candidates will have to undergo a selection process, which may include a written test or an interview, depending on the post. The company has specified the educational qualifications for the eligible candidates, which range from matriculation in English or ITI courses to graduation, diploma, or BE/B.Tech in any discipline from a recognized institution.

This is not the first time that Tata Steel has shown its commitment to the transgender community. In February 2022, the company recruited 12 transgender crane operators and sent them for training at the Kalinga Nagar plant in Odisha. In addition, the company has already appointed 14 transgender candidates as heavy earth moving machinery operators in mines in West Bokaro, Jharkhand.

Tata Steel’s initiative has been welcomed by the transgender community and activists, who have praised the company for setting an example for other corporations and sectors to follow. They have also expressed hope that such steps will help in reducing the discrimination and marginalization faced by transgender people in society.
