Amid a wave of labor unrest and industrial protests in Noida, the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration has announced a comprehensive package of worker-friendly reforms. District Magistrate (DM) Medha Rupam confirmed that both the state government and a high-level committee have accepted the workers’ primary demand, a wage hike, a move set to benefit thousands of employees across the district’s industrial belt.

Salaries to be credited before the 10th of every month

Under the new directives, all companies and industrial establishments in Gautam Buddh Nagar must ensure that employee salaries are deposited directly into bank accounts before the 10th of each month. The mandate is aimed at eliminating delays that have long been a source of worker grievance. Additionally, annual bonuses owed to employees must now be disbursed before the month of November each year, providing workers with greater financial certainty ahead of the festive season. DM Medha Rupam also acknowledged the role of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in facilitating these reforms.

Double pay for overtime and holiday work

In a significant strengthening of workers’ rights, the administration has issued binding directives mandating that employees receive double the standard wage for any overtime work and for work carried out on weekly holidays. This directive brings relief to the large section of the workforce that routinely puts in extra hours or is called in on rest days without additional compensation. The move aligns the district’s labor practices more closely with established statutory norms under the Factories Act and allied legislation.

Mandatory POSH committees to be headed by women

The administration has adopted a firm stance on workplace safety for female employees. The formation of internal committees to handle complaints related to sexual harassment at the workplace, as mandated under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, has been made compulsory across all industrial establishments. A notable feature of this directive is that these committees must be chaired by women, with the aim of creating a safe, impartial, and empathetic environment for those who come forward with complaints.

Complaint boxes and grievance control room launched

To give workers an accessible and confidential channel for voicing grievances, complaint boxes are to be installed at workplaces throughout the district. Alongside this, the administration has released dedicated call center and control room numbers that employees can use to register complaints directly. The DM stated that all complaints received through these channels will be actively monitored by the administration to ensure swift and effective resolution, reducing dependence on informal or confrontational dispute mechanisms.

Administration appeals for peace and dialogue

Concluding her announcement, DM Medha Rupam made a pointed appeal to all stakeholders to uphold peace and industrial harmony. She stated clearly that violence is never the solution to any dispute and urged both workers and industrial management to engage in constructive dialogue and cooperation. The administration reaffirmed its commitment to preserving law and order in Gautam Buddh Nagar while ensuring that the legitimate rights and interests of the workforce are fully protected.
