
New Delhi: The sub-4-meter SUV segment, also known as the subcompact SUV segment, has been one of the most popular and competitive segments in the Indian passenger vehicle market for the last few years. There are many models available in this segment, catering to different tastes and preferences of the customers. In September 2023, a total of 1,06,634 units of subcompact SUVs were sold in India, which marked a growth of 23.16 percent year-on-year and 8.66 percent month-on-month. Here we are telling you about the top-5 best-selling SUVs in the sub-4-meter category in September.
The first place in this list was occupied by Tata Nexon, which sold 15,325 units in September, registering a growth of 5.56 percent year-on-year and a whopping 90 percent month-on-month. The Nexon is a crossover that offers a spacious cabin, a range of engine options, and a host of features. The Nexon also received a facelift model with its all-electric avatar last month, which boosted its sales further.
The second place was taken by Maruti Suzuki Brezza, which sold 15,001 units in September, witnessing a slight decline of 2.87 percent year-on-year and a marginal increase of 2.94 percent month-on-month. The Brezza is one of the oldest and most successful models in this segment, which underwent a major upgrade last year. The upgrade brought in a new design, more features, and a new 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology.
The third place was claimed by another Tata model, the Punch, which sold 13,036 units in September, recording a growth of 6.41 percent year-on-year. However, the month-on-month sales dropped by 10 percent as Tata sold 14,523 units of the Punch in August. The Punch is one of the newest and safest models in this segment, which received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP last year. The Punch is based on the ALFA-ARC platform and offers a rugged design, a spacious interior, and a 1.2-litre petrol engine.
The fourth place was secured by Hyundai Venue, which sold 12,204 units in September, registering a growth of 10.61 percent year-on-year and 11.47 percent month-on-month. The Venue is one of the most feature-rich and technologically advanced models in this segment, which recently added a partial ADAS package to its equipment list. The Venue also offers three engine options – a 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel.

The fifth place was occupied by Maruti Suzuki Fronx, which sold 11,455 units in September, witnessing a marginal month-on-month decline of 5.83 percent. The Fronx is the second Maruti Suzuki model to feature in this list, which shares its underpinnings with the new Baleno hatchback. The Fronx offers a sporty design, a spacious cabin, and a 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine for added performance.
