New York: Time magazine has named Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur among the top 100 emerging leaders influencing the world. She is one of the three Indians who made it to the 2023 Time 100 Next: The Emerging Leaders Shaping the World list, along with Nandita Venkatesan and Vinoo Daniel. Navarun Dasgupta, an Indian-American, is also on the list.

Time magazine praised Harmanpreet for her aggressive and skillful batting that has transformed women’s cricket into one of the most valuable sporting properties in the world. She scored a stunning 171 not out of 115 balls against Australia in the 2017 World Cup, showcasing her extraordinary talent. She also led Mumbai Indians to victory in the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in March this year, where five teams were bought for a total of $ 570 million (about Rs 47 billion).

However, Harmanpreet also faced controversy for criticizing the umpires during India’s drawn match against Bangladesh in July. She was suspended for two matches and fined 75 percent of her match fee for her conduct.
