Almora: In a devastating incident in Almora, Uttarakhand, a bus carrying passengers fell into a deep gorge in the Marchula area near Ramnagar, resulting in the loss of 36 lives. The accident occurred early this morning when the Garhwal Users bus, en route to Ramnagar, veered off the road. Emergency responders reported that among the casualties, 8 victims succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Meanwhile, 27 injured passengers were rushed to local hospitals, with several critically injured individuals receiving specialized care at Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani.
The state administration has mobilized extensive resources to aid the victims and their families. Temporary tents have been set up near the crash site for the identification of the deceased. Specialist doctors have been deployed in emergency rooms, and all essential medical services are being coordinated. The atmosphere at the scene remains somber, with families mourning the loss of their loved ones.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced financial aid of ₹4 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹1 lakh for those injured. The Chief Minister has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident to determine the cause and identify any possible negligence. In response, CM Dhami directed the suspension of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) enforcement officials in the affected areas of Pauri and Almora, emphasizing that stringent action will follow if any lapses are discovered.
Expressing condolences, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath took to social media, saying, “The loss of life in an unfortunate road accident in Almora, Uttarakhand, is extremely sad. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray for the departed souls and wish a swift recovery for the injured.”
As investigations commence, the Uttarakhand government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the victims and their families, with all available medical and administrative assistance on standby.
