Nagpur: Nagpur witnessed the grand celebration of Vijayadashami, or Dussehra, today with a significant event hosted by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In a time-honored tradition, RSS chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat performed the ceremonial Shastra Pujan (weapon worship) at the Reshimbagh ground in Nagpur, Maharashtra’s sub-capital. This annual event marks a special day for the RSS as the organization was founded on Vijayadashami in 1925.
This year’s celebration saw a distinguished guest in attendance former ISRO chairman and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, who was invited as the chief guest. Dr. Radhakrishnan, who led India’s space exploration efforts, including the Mars Orbiter Mission, joined the ceremony, adding a touch of scientific prominence to the occasion.
The day began with much anticipation as the Vijayadashami celebrations kicked off early in the morning at 7:40 am, with thousands of RSS volunteers gathered at the iconic Reshimbagh ground. Dressed in their signature white shirts and khaki trousers, the volunteers displayed discipline and unity as they awaited Dr. Bhagwat’s annual address.
A Tradition Rooted in History:
For the RSS, Vijayadashami is not just another festival. It holds deep historical significance as the organization was founded on this very day in 1925. Since then, the day has been celebrated with great fervor at the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. Shastra Pujan, an integral part of the ceremony, symbolizes the protection of Dharma (righteousness), and RSS members perform this ritual with full devotion every year.
This year’s Vijayadashami celebrations were no different. Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat performed the Shastra Pujan with the traditional weapons, followed by a speech that addressed the volunteers and laid out the vision for the year ahead.
Path Sanchalan and Massive Turnout:
A special highlight of the event was the Path Sanchalan, a ceremonial parade led by Dr. Bhagwat, which saw thousands of RSS volunteers marching in unison. The sight of disciplined volunteers walking together, carrying saffron flags, created an awe-inspiring atmosphere.
The event at Reshimbagh ground was attended by a massive gathering of RSS members, local dignitaries, and invitees. The presence of Dr. K. Radhakrishnan as the chief guest was particularly notable, as the former ISRO chairman’s achievements reflect the organization’s commitment to national pride and self-reliance. His participation underscored the RSS’s focus on combining traditional values with modern scientific thought.
As Dr. Bhagwat addressed the volunteers, he emphasized the importance of upholding the values of the RSS, which focuses on nation-building and social harmony. He also reiterated the significance of Vijayadashami as a day of renewal for the organization, urging members to continue their service to the nation with dedication.
A Day of Significance for Every Swayamsevak:
Dussehra holds a unique place in the hearts of every RSS member. Beyond its mythological importance, it serves as a reminder of the organization’s founding and its core mission. The festival’s rituals, including the Shastra Pujan, are symbolic of the volunteer’s duty to protect the nation and uphold the principles of righteousness. The celebration of this day serves to reinvigorate the Sangh’s commitment to its objectives.
The atmosphere at the Reshimbagh ground reflected the pride and unity of the Sangh. With the backdrop of India’s rich history, cultural heritage, and modern aspirations, this year’s Vijayadashami Utsav reinforced the RSS’s ongoing role in shaping the nation’s future.
