New Delhi: The winter session of Parliament commenced on November 25, promising a month of critical debates and legislative decisions until December 20. A notable reshuffling of seating arrangements in the Lok Sabha has attracted significant attention, reflecting the political dynamics of the house. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been assigned seat number one, while Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi will occupy the seat directly opposite him in the front row.
In a circular issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, it was also revealed that senior BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, have been seated strategically. Rajnath Singh has been assigned seat number two, next to the Prime Minister, while Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has moved to seat number four, also near Amit Shah.
Priyanka Gandhi and Regional Leaders Take Key Spots
Among other significant allocations, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the newly elected MP from Wayanad, will occupy seat number 517, located in the fourth row. Regional leaders have also been strategically placed, with Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav assigned seat number 355 in the opposition gallery’s front row. Leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), including Sudip Bandopadhyay, Abhishek Banerjee, Kalyan Banerjee, and Saugata Roy, have been allotted seats in close proximity to Akhilesh Yadav. Key DMK leaders TR Balu and A Raja will also occupy prominent positions in the opposition’s front row.
All-Party Meeting Brings Consensus to End Lok Sabha Deadlock
Amid the winter session, a significant breakthrough was achieved during an all-party meeting chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The meeting, aimed at resolving the stalemate that had disrupted proceedings, culminated in a consensus for smooth parliamentary functioning.
The Speaker appealed to members to prioritize discussions on public-interest issues, and leaders across party lines assured cooperation. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed optimism, stating that both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are expected to operate without disruption from Tuesday onwards.
