ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army claimed on Thursday that their country was fulfilling all its international obligations to Kulbhushan Jadhav, who is serving a death sentence. Jadhav, a retired officer from the Indian Navy, was sentenced to death by a Pakistan military court in April 2017 for espionage and terrorism. A week later, India took the matter to an international court. Where he challenged Jadhav’s death sentence, saying that Pakistan had not granted him diplomatic access.
The international court banned Pakistan from serving his death sentence. In response to a question related to Jadhav, Pakistan Army spokesman Major General Babar Iftikhar said, “The international court ruling on Kulbhushan is being implemented.” In Rawalpindi, he said, “We are following international law, granted diplomatic access in compliance with the obligations associated with international court decisions.”
Pakistan provided diplomatic access to Jadhav in July. Just a few days before that, he claimed that Jadhav refused to appeal against the verdict. However, India has expressed disappointment over not providing “unhindered and unconditional” diplomatic access to Jadhav. Iftikhar also accused India of human rights violations in Kashmir.
