Ghon, 66, who has French, Lebanese and Brazilian citizenship, led Japanese automaker Nissan for two decades and almost pulled it out of bankruptcy. He was arrested in November 2018 on charges of treason, misusing company assets for personal gain and violating security rules. He denied these wrongdoings.

In December, he fled Japan to Lebanon on bail, which means he will not be tried in Japan. Interpol issued a notice against him but his extradition from Lebanon is unlikely.

Ghon accused Nissan and Japanese officials of conspiring against Nissan to prevent full integration with its French alliance partner Renault SA.
