Karachi: Due to the floods in Pakistan, the situation has gone from bad to worse. Hospitals and homes have been destroyed in Pakistan due to floods. The situation is such that pregnant women are under threat in Pakistan. Dr. Azra Pechuho, the Health Minister of Sindh province, has said that more than 47,000 ‘pregnant women’ have been kept in different ‘relief house camps’ in Sindh amid severe floods in Pakistan.
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said that 6 lakh 50 thousand women are pregnant in the midst of this terrible flood in Pakistan. The UN agency said that “about 73,000 women are expected to deliver next month. Here lakhs of pregnant women are in dire need of health services. In such a situation, these women need newborn care and support.
The agency is continuously working for women in such a situation so that pregnant women continue to get life-saving services even in the most challenging situations. UNFPA has started delivering 8 thousand 311 Garima Kits and 7 thousand 411 Newborn Baby Kits and 6 thousand 412 Swachh Delivery Kits for immediate delivery in Sindh and Balochistan, Pakistan. The UNFPA said that out of the 6.4 million people in need of humanitarian aid in the aftermath of monsoon rains, floods, and landslides in Pakistan, more than 1.6 million will be pregnant women.
Health facilities in Sindh have been affected the most due to the floods. Dr. Azra Pechuho said that thousands of people have faced various diseases after the floods. There have been more than 134,000 cases of diarrhea and more than 44,000 malaria cases.
He further informed that so far more than 100,000 skin-related patients have been found among the flood-affected. About 101 such patients have also come, who have been bitten by snakes and some such information has also been heard that about 500 people have been bitten by dogs.
Pakistan has faced devastating floods this year, affecting nearly 33 million people in the country. And thousands of people have lost their homes. Due to this, more than 5 lakh people are currently living in relief camps in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Punjab.
