New Delhi: The names of all the 10 teams playing in the ICC World Cup to be held in India this year have come to the fore. The names of the first 8 teams playing in the tournament were decided on the basis of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. The teams that achieved the top 8 ODI rankings got direct entry to the tournament. The names of the remaining 2 teams were decided by the World Cup qualifiers.

India, hosting the ICC World Cup, finished sixth in the World Cup Super League. Being the host, the place of the team was already confirmed in the tournament. This is the first time that India is hosting the World Cup alone. This will be a big achievement for the BCCI after hosting it jointly with neighboring countries in 1987, 1996, and 2011.

New Zealand ranked first in the top 8 teams that made it to the ICC World Cup, which made it to the tournament by performing brilliantly in the Super League. The current World Cup winner England team was at number two. Bangladesh’s team remained at number three and Australia at number four. Afghanistan’s team was fifth while India was at number six. Pakistan at number seven while South Africa’s team was in last place.

The last 5 teams out of 13 who could not make it to the World Cup Super League were given a second chance to make it to the tournament by playing with associate countries. 5 associate teams and 5 major teams entered the World Cup qualifiers. Sri Lanka first made a place for the World Cup through the qualifiers, after which the Netherlands won the World Cup ticket by registering a victory against Scotland. The Netherlands team has to play in the last league match against India on 11th November. Team India will need to be careful with this team

The biggest disappointment was received by the 2-time world champion West Indies. The team that came out to play the World Cup qualifiers had to be out of the tournament after a humiliating defeat against Scotland. This is the first time in the history of the ICC World Cup that the West Indies team will not be a part of the tournament.
