Uttarakhand Unveils Comprehensive UCC Report

Dehradun: The much-anticipated Uniform Civil Code (UCC) report has finally been made public. The Rules Making and Implementation Committee, led by Chairman Shatrughan Singh, held a press conference on Friday to share the details. The committee, which included ADG Amit Sinha, social worker Manu Gaur, and Doon University VC Surekha Dangwal, revealed that extensive studies of various Shia and Sunni religious texts were conducted to formulate the Muslim law aspects of the UCC.

Chairman Singh explained that the UCC report could not be shared earlier due to the Lok Sabha elections. However, the comprehensive report, divided into four volumes, is now available on the official website https://ucc.uk.gov.in/. He emphasized that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar had strongly advocated for the UCC, highlighting its importance.

The report also touches upon several critical issues. It mentions a proposed population control law, which the government has decided not to include in the UCC. Additionally, the report discusses the right to adoption, another aspect not incorporated into the current law. The government plans to make Volume 1 and Volume 3 of the UCC report public.
