Lucknow: Elections will be held on September 11 on the vacant Rajya Sabha seat after the demise of Samajwadi Party (SP) strongman Amar Singh. According to the Election Commission, this one seat, which was accidentally vacant in the Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh, will be voted on September 11, if required. Amar Singh was admitted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore for the last 7 months. Amar Singh died in Singapore on 1 August.

There was a time when Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh used to trust him a lot but with Akhilesh taking the reins of the party, Amar was sidelined. However, there was a time when Amar Singh was considered suitable for the party. From the networking to all the important responsibilities, he was on his shoulders. In the late 90s, Amar Singh was considered an influential man of the sugar lobby in Uttar Pradesh. In this connection, he became close to the then Chief Minister Mulayam.

He joined the Samajwadi Party around the year 1996. Then soon he was made the General Secretary of the party. They became powerful. It was said that Mulayam does not do any work without asking him. Please tell that Amar Singh was born in Azamgarh. During the reign of SP in Uttar Pradesh and CM of Mulayam Singh Yadav, he worked a lot for the development of Azamgarh. But, after being expelled from the SP in 2010, he formed a party called Rashtriya Lok Manch to get the status of a separate Purvanchal state. He also undertook a post-tour, but his party had no success.
