LONDON: Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc on his career-best six as India beat England by ten wickets in the first ODI on Tuesday. Seeing the grass on the pitch, India won the toss and elected to bowl and the Indian fast bowlers led by Bumrah proved it right and bowled out England for 110, their lowest score against India.

Bumrah took six wickets for 19 runs in 7.2 overs. He became the first Indian fast bowler to take five or more wickets in an ODI in England. In reply, captain Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 76 in 58 balls and Shikhar Dhawan scored 31 not out in 54 balls to help India 18. Won victory in 4 overs without losing any wicket. It took some time for Dhawan to get into the rhythm but Rohit kept the audience entertained by playing spectacular shots. He hit Chris Overton for a six and a four.

Dhawan, who could score only two runs in the first 17 balls, hit Reece Topley for two consecutive fours. Meanwhile, Rohit completed his half-century by hitting Bryden Chase for the third six of his innings. He also hit Chase for the fifth six of his innings while Dhawan hit the winning four. Earlier the ball was taking good swing and seam which made Bumrah and Mohammed Shami look more dangerous. Shami took three wickets for 31 runs in seven overs.

Jason Roy (0) lost his wicket in an attempt to tamper with Bumrah’s outgoing ball. Two balls later, in-form Joe Root (0) was waiting for another inswinger but Bumrah’s ball bounced from outside the off-stump and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant took a simple catch. From the other end, Shami did not even allow Ben Stokes to open the account. Pant took his visible catch with one hand.

Pant also took the catch of Jonny Bairstow in the same manner, who became Bumrah’s third victim after scoring seven runs. Bumrah quickly reduced England’s score to 26 for five when Liam Livingston (0) returned to the pavilion. England captain Jos Buttler top-scored with 30 runs in 32 balls but wickets kept falling from the other end.

Shami bowled a short ball and forced Buttler to play a poor shot, who returned after being caught at deep square leg. England’s score at this time was 59 for seven. David Willey (21 off 26 balls) and Bryson Carrs (15 off 26 balls) put on 35 runs for the ninth wicket to save England from being reduced to a hundred. The minimum score of England is 86 which was made against Australia in 2001. Bumrah completed his five-wicket haul for the second time in his ODI career by dismissing Kars.
