New Delhi: In a significant move to support women and households across India, the Prime Minister announced a reduction in the prices of LPG cylinders by ₹100, marking International Women’s Day with a gesture aimed at easing the financial burden on families and promoting environmental health.

A Step Towards Environmental and Family Health

The Prime Minister took to social media to share the news, highlighting the dual benefits of the price cut: making cooking gas more affordable and contributing to environmental protection. This initiative is expected to improve the health of families nationwide while aligning with the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment and ‘ease of living’.

Ujjwala Scheme Beneficiaries to Pay ₹503 for LPG Cylinder

Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the price for beneficiaries has been set at ₹503 per cylinder, while the price for general customers will be ₹803. The government has also extended the PMUY subsidy for an additional year, until March 31, 2025, ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive a subsidy for up to 12 refills annually. The financial outlay for this subsidy in the fiscal year 2024-25 is projected to be ₹12,000 crore, with the subsidy amount being directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
