Kathmandu: Air India and Nepal Airlines planes were about to clash mid-air in Nepal on Friday when the warning system alerted the pilots and their immediate action averted a major accident. Officials gave this information here on Sunday. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has suspended three employees of the Air Traffic Control Department on charges of negligence. CAAN spokesperson Jagannath Nirula gave this information.
On Friday morning, Nepal Airlines Airbus A-320 aircraft coming from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Kathmandu, and Air India aircraft coming from New Delhi to Kathmandu were about to collide. Nirula said that the Air India plane was coming down from a height of 19,000 feet while the Nepal Airlines plane was flying at a height of 15,000 feet at the same time.
The spokesman said that when it was shown on the radar that two aircraft were in the vicinity, the Nepal Airlines aircraft came down to a height of seven thousand feet.
The Civil Aviation Authority has formed a three-member committee to investigate the matter. CAAN suspended three officers posted in the control room at the time of the incident. At present, there is no response from Air India on this incident.
