Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is suffering from heavy floods. Most of the districts of Purvanchal in Uttar Pradesh are badly affected by the flood and there are outbreaks in thousands of villages. The government itself has admitted that 16 districts of eastern UP are currently affected by floods and water has entered more than a thousand villages. Hundreds of villages have been completely drowned. Rivers such as Saryu-Ghaghra, Rapti, and Sharda have been buried due to the release of water from Nepal’s dams amid continuous rains.
According to the Relief Commissioner Office, till date 16 districts in the state- Ambedkaranagar, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Bahraich, Ballia, Balrampur, Barabanki, Basti, Deoria, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Kheri, Kushinagar, Mau, Santakbir Nagar and 642 villages of Sitapur are flood affected. . Of these, 362 villages are submerged. The most havoc is seen due to the increased water level of Sarayu, Ghaghra, which has affected many villages.
If the Ghaghra is flowing one meter above the danger mark on the Elgin Bridge, Rapti in Balrampur has also risen above the danger. In most Terai areas, the water of the rivers is flowing above the danger mark. Many villages of Barabanki, Jugalpurwa, Jaramapur, Jamai village of Bahraich-Mahasi tehsil and Jaddapur, Khairhania in Balrampur district have been flooded.
More than a dozen villages in the Mahasi tehsil of Bahraich are in the grip of flood. The connectivity routes of most villages have been affected by the floods. People have to come through the water. People are living in high places from the villages. At the same time, despite light rain in Shravasti, the water level of Rapti is increasing rapidly. On the other hand, the strong waves of Sharda river have cut many embankments near Dhakia Surajpur at many places. Irrigation department is working fast to repair the embankment.
Relief commissioner’s office said that at this time the river Sharda is flowing above the danger mark in Paliyakalan. At the same time, Saryu and Ghaghra in Barabanki is flowing 0.556 meters above its water level of 106. 070 meters. In Ayodhya, Saryu is flowing 0.80 meters above 92.730 meters water level and Turtipar is flowing 0.180 meters above 64.01 meters water level. In view of the flood situation, 303 camps have been set up for rescue in the state where people have been kept. So far 61892 food packets have been distributed. 627 boats are operating in affected areas and 735 flood posts have been set up. Relief Commissioner Sanjay Goel said that 15 NDRF teams have been deployed in flood affected districts for search and rescue.
Due to floods, thousands of acres of paddy crop have been completely destroyed in many districts. Torrential rains have affected seasonal vegetables as well, so the mentha crop has also deteriorated. The fields have been submerged due to flood water.
