Jaipur: Nobel Peace Prize awardees Kailash Satyarthi and Leymah Gbowee on Sunday launched the ‘Child Marriage Free India’ campaign with an aim to make people aware to end the evil of child marriage in the country.
According to a statement issued in this regard, Satyarthi and Joboi started this campaign from Navrangpura village, dominated by the Banjara community of Virat Nagar in Rajasthan. Satyarthi said on the occasion, “Child marriage is a violation of human rights and dignity, which unfortunately has social acceptance. This social evil gives rise to endless crimes against our children, especially our daughters. A few weeks ago I gave a call to make a child marriage-free India.”
Nobel laureate Leymah Gbowee of Liberia also expressed concern over child marriage, saying, “Child marriage is a terrible evil on a global scale. We have to put an end to this evil practice that kills human rights.”
