Mumbai: An Akasa Air flight from Mumbai to Bangalore returned to the city airport after smelling of burning in the cabin. Later it was found that the said smell was coming due to a bird hitting the plane. An official of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) gave this information on Saturday. The official said the DGCA is probing the incident. It was not immediately known how many passengers were on the flight.
“The aircraft operating Akasa Air‘s flight AKJ1103 from Mumbai to Bangalore, VT-YAE, turned back due to a burning smell in the cabin,” the official said. However, no other abnormality was observed including engine parameters, the DGCA official said.
“During the inspection after the plane landed, the remains of the bird were found on engine number 1 of the aircraft,” he said. “The smell of burning was due to the bird hitting it,” he said.

Akasa Air confirmed in a statement that its Bangalore flight returned to Mumbai due to an odor in the cabin as a result of the bird’s collision.
“The aircraft landed safely in Mumbai and all passengers were deboarded,” it said in a statement. Arrangements were made for his visit.” The aircraft has been grounded for detailed inspection and the aircraft is now back in service. Akasa Air started its operations on 7 August this year.
