New Delhi: Online food delivery platform Zomato is now gearing up to deliver food from one city to another. The company has started a pilot project of intercity food delivery named Legends. Now people of selected areas of NCR will also be able to order food from restaurants in some other cities including Kolkata, Lucknow, and Hyderabad.
The company said in a statement that once fresh food is prepared at the restaurant, it is packaged in reusable and tamper-proof containers for safekeeping during air transit. According to the company, to save food from spoilage, state-of-the-art mobile refrigeration is being used which helps in preserving food without any preservatives.
Expansion plan
The company has said that it will be taking it to other cities in the coming days, according to Zomato, there is no limit to how big an ‘intercity legend’ can become with over 100 airports and the most iconic cuisines. It is worth noting that earlier in Gurugram, the company had started the service of food delivery in 10 minutes. This service has not yet been started in any other city.
Groceries on food delivery app
After the acquisition of the grocery app Blkint, Zomato has linked it with the food delivery app in the back end. With this, people of Delhi-NCR will also be able to order for groceries on the Upper Food Delivery App itself. This too has been started only as a pilot project.
The food delivery segment reached break-even
The company released the financial data for the first quarter of the financial year 2022-23 in August. Zomato says that now its food delivery segment has reached break-even (neither profit nor loss). However, in the previous quarter, the company had a loss of Rs 80 crore. Talking about the shares of the company, they are trading about 20 percent below their issue price. On Tuesday, the company’s shares closed at Rs 57.95, down 2.11 percent on Nifty.
