New Delhi: The Kejriwal government is making continuous efforts to reduce air pollution in Delhi. For this, the government has implemented Electric Vehicle Policy (EV Policy), under which vehicles are being converted into EVs in a phased manner. The Delhi government plans that in the next three years, 80 percent of the public transport fleet will be electric buses (E-Buses). By the end of 2025, the total number of buses in the Transport Department is set to be 10,380 out of which 8180 will be electric buses alone.
The Delhi government is also preparing a large number of electric charging stations for these vehicles. For this, EV charging stations are being set up in more and more bus depots. At present, charging stations have been started in only three bus depots.
There are plans to set up charging stations in 17 bus depots by next year. Not only this, the government plans to set up charging stations in 55 bus depots by the end of 2023. Within the next three years i.e. by 2025, 18,000 charging points for electric buses will be ready in Delhi.
1500 more new e-buses will come by November 2023
Let us inform you that only 250 electric buses are being operated by the Delhi government at present. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated 97 low-floor electric AC buses from Rajghat Bus Depot-2 on Wednesday. Earlier, 153 electric buses were plying on the roads of Delhi. After the introduction of new buses, now their number has increased to 250. The government believes that 1500 more new e-buses will arrive by November 2023 and with 1800 e-buses in the fleet, Delhi will become the only city in the country with the maximum number of electric buses.
In a few months, the number of female drivers will cross 200
Not only this, the government is now giving a big responsibility to women as bus drivers. On Wednesday, 11 women were given the responsibility of driving the bus in Delhi. At the same time, in the coming few months this number will be increased to 200. That is, now 200 women will be given the responsibility of bus driver. After school and health, now the government is working on the goal of making Delhi a model for the whole world in the sector of transport.
An electric bus will be charged in about 42 minutes
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal says that the induction of low-floor electric AC buses in the DTC fleet will further strengthen the campaign against pollution by the Delhi government. Experts say that if the battery of a bus is zero percent and it has to be charged up to 100 percent, then it takes about 42 minutes.
