India successfully test-fired Pralay ballistic missile for the second time in 24 hours

New Delhi: India on Thursday also successfully test-fired a short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile ‘Prayal’ (Pralay conventional quasi ballistic missile) off the Odisha coast. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) gave this information. This is the second successful test of the missile within 24 hours. It was also successfully tested on Wednesday. An official said that this is the first time in the country that a developmental missile has been successfully test-fired in two consecutive days.

The solid-fuel, combat missile developed by DRDO is based on the ‘Prithvi Defense Vehicle’ of the Indian ballistic missile program. The DRDO issued a statement saying that the missile, which was launched from APJ Abdul Kalam Island at around 10.30 am, fulfilled all the objectives of the mission. According to the statement, its launch from the coastline was monitored through surveillance equipment.

Pralay is a surface-to-surface missile with a range of less than 150-500 km and is capable of carrying a load of 500-1000 kg. It was told that ‘Pralaya’ is equipped with a solid-propellant rocket motor and other new technology. The missile guidance system is fitted with state-of-the-art navigation and electronic equipment.
