Washington: Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency following incidents of violent crimes and vandalism in the capital city of Atlanta.
The Governor has deployed 1,000 National Guards for safeguarding state buildings like the Capitol and the Governor’s Mansion. The local police would also increase patrolling, the Governor said in a statement.

Five people died due to the gunfire over the weekend while more than 25 citizens were injured, the statement added.
The city of Atlanta has witnessed more than 75 shootings over the past weeks, Xinhua reported, citing the mayor of Atlanta Keisha Lance Bottoms’ statement.
Kemp said that peaceful protests were hijacked by criminal elements having dangerous and destructive agendas. He resolved to put an end to this lawlessness.
