45% more people watched YouTube on TV than last year in India

New Delhi: The world’s most popular and popular video streaming platform YouTube said that in May this year in India, more than 20 million people watched YouTube on their TV screens, which is 45 percent more than last year. The Google-owned platform also revealed that a growing number of YouTube viewers prefer to watch content in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and other Indian languages.

Google India Country Manager and Vice President Sanjay Gupta said, “There are already over 20 million users who are watching content on connected TVs. So this revolution of content consumption, content diversity, the content producer is not limited to mobile phones only. This is a phenomenon that is happening on both mobile phones and connected TVs.”

He said that Google is committed to helping India become a leading digital economy and YouTube and digital video will play a very important role in shaping this journey.

More use of YouTube after Covid-19
Satya Raghavan, Director of YouTube Partnerships, said that a large number of consumers use videos to source reliable content/information and to learn new skills. Raghavan said that 85 percent of video viewers in India said that they have used YouTube more than ever since Covid-19.
