Tokyo: Two weeks before the start of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, 920 new cases of coronavirus were reported on Wednesday, which is a new record for cases found in a single day after the month of May. Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga also held a meeting with his key ministers regarding coronavirus measures.
Suga said he would do everything he could to prevent cases from escalating in Tokyo. He said he would make a decision on Thursday on restoring the state of emergency in Tokyo.

If a state of emergency is declared in Tokyo, Olympic organizers will have to rethink plans to allow local spectators into stadiums for the Games starting July 23.
