Mumbai: In a devastating incident early this morning, a fierce fire broke out in a shop located in the Chembur Siddharth Colony area of Mumbai, resulting in the tragic deaths of seven people. The fire, which started at approximately 5:20 am, quickly spread from the ground-floor shop to the residential area above.
The affected building was a ground-plus-one structure, with the shop on the ground floor and living quarters above. According to initial reports, the fire originated from electrical wires and equipment in the shop, rapidly engulfing the entire building.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene. Despite their swift response, the fire claimed the lives of seven residents, who were later identified as Paris Gupta (7), Manju Prem Gupta (30), Anita Gupta (39), Prem Gupta (30), and Narendra Gupta (10). The victims were transported to Rajawadi Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
DCP Hemraj Singh Rajput stated, “We received information around 6 am. Seven people have been burnt in this fire and have died. The cause of the fire is being ascertained. Our police and fire brigade teams are investigating the matter to determine the exact cause.”
In a separate incident, a massive fire broke out in the ‘Bharat Industrial Estate’ building in Mumbai’s Sewri area on Saturday night. The fire, which started at 10:21 pm, was classified as a ‘level-two’ fire and affected two shops on the third floor of the five-storey building. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the fire was brought under control by 1:57 am. The cause of this fire is also under investigation.
