Torrential Rains Devastate Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

New Delhi: Continuous torrential rains have wreaked havoc in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, leading to a scene of utter devastation. The relentless downpour has claimed the lives of 20 people, with many more still trapped in the floodwaters. The severe weather has severely disrupted normal life, submerging low-lying areas and causing significant damage.

Transportation Chaos: The flooding has led to the cancellation of 99 trains and the rerouting of 54 others, causing widespread travel disruptions. The situation has prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reach out to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, assuring them of all possible assistance.

Relief Efforts: In response to the crisis, 26 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are actively engaged in relief operations across both states. Additionally, 14 more teams have been dispatched to bolster rescue efforts. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for several districts, including Adilabad, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Sangareddy, Kamareddy, and Mahbubnagar.

Gujarat Faces Similar Devastation

Heavy rains have also caused significant damage in Gujarat, where the Home Ministry has formed a central team to assess the flood impact. Led by the Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Institute, the team will evaluate the extensive damage caused by last week’s continuous rains, which have resulted in 30 fatalities in districts like Vadodara.

Weather Alerts Across India

Delhi: The weather in Delhi is expected to change today, with the Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for some areas. Light to moderate rain is anticipated throughout the week, with monsoon conditions likely to persist until September 7.

Maharashtra: The Vidarbha region is on high alert for heavy rainfall, with the IMD issuing a red alert.

Other States: The Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy rains in various districts of Assam, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, and Marathwada, issuing an orange alert for these areas. Additionally, rain is expected in Uttarakhand, Eastern Rajasthan, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
