New Delhi: WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform, is gearing up to enhance its web client experience for PC users. The company has already rolled out the Meta AI chatbot across various platforms, and now it’s working on an exciting new feature: username profiles.

The Privacy Upgrade

Many users find WhatsApp’s direct access via phone numbers intrusive, especially when dealing with stalkers or unwanted contacts. To address this, WhatsApp is introducing username profiles. Instead of sharing your phone number, you’ll soon be able to add people to the messaging app using a unique username.

How It Works

The feature is still in development, but reliable tipster WaBetaInfo has spotted it being tested with select users. Here’s how it might work:

  1. Username Sharing: In private chats, you’ll have the option to share your username with others. This way, friends and family can contact you on WhatsApp using the username, without needing your phone number.
  2. Unique Usernames: WhatsApp will likely allow users to set up a unique ID for their account. You might get multiple tries to find an available username, or the app could suggest options.
  3. Beta Stage: While the feature hasn’t reached the beta stage yet if all goes well, we can expect it to be pushed out in the coming weeks.

Beyond Usernames

Apart from username profiles, WhatsApp is also working on other features. One of the most anticipated updates is the ability to transcribe voice messages. Soon, you’ll see a text version of all the voice messages you send or receive, making communication even more convenient.
