New Delhi: The first pre-monsoon rain in Delhi brought much-needed relief from the intense heat but also caused significant disruption. Early Friday morning, the city experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, leading to waterlogged streets and a major incident at Indira Gandhi International Airport’s Terminal-1, where a section of the roof collapsed. This collapse resulted in injuries to four individuals and significant damage to multiple vehicles.

Airport Incident Causes Panic

Around 5:30 AM, strong winds caused a portion of the roof at Terminal-1 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to collapse. The falling debris buried several vehicles, injuring three people inside. Emergency services, including three fire engines, were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving the distress call.

Dramatic Rescue Operations

Images from the scene show the heavy roof section lying across several vehicles. Rescue teams worked tirelessly to extricate the trapped individuals. Among those injured, one person was found stuck inside their car and required extensive effort to be freed. All injured parties were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.

Weather Chaos Across Delhi NCR

The sudden weather change on Friday morning saw heavy rain and winds sweep across Delhi NCR for over an hour. While the rain brought a welcome reprieve from the heat, it also caused waterlogging and traffic jams in many parts of Noida and Delhi. Additionally, the strong winds resulted in trees being uprooted in various locations.
