New Delhi: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani, a stalwart in Indian politics, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi late Wednesday night. The 96-year-old former Deputy Prime Minister has been placed in the old private ward at AIIMS, where he is under the care of doctors from the Department of Urology. His condition is currently stable, and medical professionals are closely monitoring his health.

  • Bharat Ratna Honoree: On March 31, Advani received the country’s highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, in recognition of his significant contributions to Indian politics. President Draupadi Murmu personally bestowed this prestigious award upon him. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Home Minister Amit Shah, and former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu were also present during the ceremony.
  • Padma Vibhushan Recipient: In 2015, Advani was honored with the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award in India, for his exceptional service and leadership.

  • Political Journey: Advani’s political journey began with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He went on to become the National President of the BJP three times. His first tenure as party president was from 1986 to 1990, followed by another term from 1993 to 1998.
