New Delhi: Bharti Airtel, one of the leading telecom service providers in the country, has launched a new initiative to encourage its customers to switch from physical SIM cards to e-SIMs. The company has streamlined the e-SIM upgrade process through its Airtel Thanks app, which allows customers to easily request and activate e-SIMs on their compatible devices.

E-SIM, or embedded SIM, is a digital version of a normal SIM card that is embedded in the device and can be remotely programmed by the service provider. E-SIM eliminates the need for physical SIM card insertion and removal and enables customers to switch between multiple numbers and plans without changing the SIM card.

E-SIM also offers several benefits for customers who use e-SIM-enabled devices, such as smartwatches, smartphones, tablets, laptops, and IoT devices. E-SIM allows customers to seamlessly connect and sync their devices, and access their mobile network services without carrying their phones. E-SIM also enhances the security and privacy of customers, as it makes it harder for thieves or hackers to disconnect or tamper with the e-SIM in the stolen or compromised device.

Gopal Vittal, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bharti Airtel, wrote a letter to the customers, urging them to adopt the e-SIM facility and enjoy its advantages. He said, “E-SIM is a game-changer for the telecom industry and the consumers. For instance, when you go for a morning walk, you can now wear your smartwatch and stay connected to your phone without carrying it with you. E-SIM also gives you the flexibility to change your number or plan anytime, anywhere, without visiting a store or swapping SIM cards.”

To upgrade to e-SIM, customers need to have an e-SIM-compatible device and an active Airtel SIM card. They can then follow these simple steps:

  • Download the Airtel Thanks app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store and log in with their mobile number.
  • Go to the ‘Manage Services’ section and select the ‘e-SIM’ option.
  • Enter the IMEI number of their device and confirm the e-SIM upgrade request.
  • Scan the QR code sent to their email address and complete the e-SIM activation process.

The e-SIM upgrade process is free of cost and takes only a few minutes to complete. Customers can also revert to their physical SIM cards anytime by following the same steps. Bharti Airtel is one of the first telecom operators in India to offer an e-SIM facility to its customers and aims to provide a hassle-free and convenient experience through its innovative and digital solutions.
