Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron during a meeting with ministers called on them to do everything possible to restore order amid the ongoing unrest in the country.
Mr. Macron met Prime Minister Elizabeth Borne and several other ministers at the Elysee Palace on Sunday evening to discuss the country’s situation, news channel BFMTV reported.
BFMTV cited participants of the meeting after the meeting as saying Mr. Macron asked the prime minister, the interior minister, and the justice minister to continue doing everything possible to restore order in France.
Mr Macron also said the French government should continue to support law enforcement officers and members of the special services who have been mobilized over the past five days.
A source told BFMTV that Mr. Macron plans to meet more than 220 mayors of communes affected by the riots at the Elysee Palace on Tuesday.
More than 45,000 law enforcement officers, including special units, are involved in the fight against riots in France, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said, while more than 300 police officers and gendarmes were injured in the first three days of unrest in the country.
France Info reported on Saturday, quoting a government source, that French Prime Minister Elizabeth Borne has urged all cabinet ministers to return to Paris and stay there amid ongoing unrest in the country.
