Imphal: Militants disguised as security personnel called three people out of their homes on the pretext of a search operation and opened fire on them, killing them in a village in Manipur’s Imphal West district on Friday.
The incident took place in a village located on the border of Kangpoki and Imphal West districts, officials said. He said that the militants are believed to be from the Meitei community. He said the security forces, who were on regular patrolling of the village, reached there after hearing the gunshots, but by then the militants had fled the area.
According to officials, they shot and killed three people before fleeing. Suspected militants killed three people, including a woman, and injured two others in Manipur’s Khoken village on Friday, according to media reports.
Formation of SIT for investigation
The CBI on Friday (June 9) constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe cases related to the Manipur violence. The DIG rank officer will command this investigation team. Recently, on May 3, a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was taken out in protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status in the state. Violent clashes started after this.
The houses of many people were burnt in the violence that has taken place so far. At the same time, many people were killed in this violence. Due to this violence, many people became homeless. According to the information received, at least 100 people have been killed and 310 others have been injured in these clashes. Whereas, 37,450 people are currently living in 272 relief camps.
SC refuses to hear
Earlier, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court against the continued ban on internet services in Manipur affected by caste violence since May 3, which the court refused to hear immediately.
