New Delhi: Neil Mohan of Indian origin will be the new CEO of YouTube. He is replacing Susan Wojcicki. Susan has recently resigned from her post. In a letter sent to YouTube employees, Susan Wojcicki said that she is leaving YouTube for her family, health and personal projects. Mohan has been working with Google since 2008. He is currently the Chief Product Officer of YouTube.

By taking over as CEO, Mohan has joined the likes of Google parent company Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, IBM’s Arvind Krishna and Adobe’s Shantanu Narayan in the list of Indian-origin global tech chiefs.

Started career with Accenture
Neil Mohan, 49, has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University. He also holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He was also an Arje Miller Scholar. Neil Mohan started his career in 1996 with Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting). Later he joined a startup called NetGravity. He later joined Internet advertising firm DoubleClick in 2002.

Led video ad business
He played a key role in the $3.1 billion sale of Google in April 2007. At Google, Mohan led the company’s display and video ad businesses. From 2008 to 2015, he was responsible for YouTube, Google Display Network, AdSense, AdMob and DoubleClick ad tech products.

Worked with Susan Wojcicki
Mohan led several strategic startups to strengthen Google’s ad offering, including Invite Media, Admold and Terracent. After taking over as CEO of YouTube in 2014, Susan Wojcicki, a head of Google’s online ad business, hired Mohan as her colleague.

Key role in launching many products
Mohan played a key role in the launch of some of YouTube’s biggest products, including its members service YouTube Red. In addition, Mohan also leads YouTube’s Trust and Safety team, which oversees the platform policies and community guidelines governing the content available on the platform.
