In fact, this announcement made by the United Nations Health Agency (WHO) on Friday was the first time in the last few months in the category of a new type of virus. It is to be known that before this, the delta variant of the coronavirus was also kept in this category, which had spread worldwide and it was said to be responsible for the second wave in India as well.
Significantly, in a statement issued by them after an emergency meeting of WHO, “Based on the evidence presented indicating a harmful change in the COVID-19 epidemiology, TAG-VE has advised WHO that This variant should be designated as Type of Concern (VOC) and the WHO has designated B. 1. 1529 is designated as such. This new VOC has been named ‘Omicron’.
These countries imposed a travel ban
Here now the whole world has become alert once again about the new variant of Corona found in South Africa. Along with this, some countries have completely banned the movement of passengers from South Africa.
- The US has made a big announcement on Monday to ban the travel of non-American citizens from South Africa and seven other African countries due to ‘Omicron’.
- Canada has also banned the entry of foreign travelers who have traveled to the southern part of Africa in the last 14 days.
- The Canadian government also said that screening of all Canadian citizens who have traveled to the southern part of Africa in the past 14 days will now be mandatory.
- Along with this, Canada said that people coming to Canada in 14 days have also been asked to stay in isolation and get corona test done.
- France has also suspended all flights to and from the southern African region for 48 hours.
- Italy has also completely banned the entry of any person living in these southern countries in the last 14 days.
- The Netherlands and the Czech Republic also take a similar stand on this issue.
