It was the first phase of a meeting to end the ‘war’ between the world’s two largest economies over tariffs. Chinese President Xi Jinping has been asking the US to coordinate macroeconomic policies since 2016.

Although this has not been provided by China, it is understood to include policies related to economic growth, employment, inflation and trade. The ministry said that the meeting on Tuesday was attended by China’s Deputy Prime Minister Lu He, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Finance Minister Steven Newchin.
