We will continue to provide life-saving assistance to the Ukrainian people. The US State Department confirmed on Thursday that American citizens were among those killed in the Russian attack on the Ukrainian city. However, the ministry did not immediately reveal the identity of the American killed. This is the second American citizen killed in the Ukraine war. Journalist and filmmaker Brent Renaud also died last week.

Chernihiv police said in a Facebook post that the city was under heavy artillery fire and that American civilians were among the civilian casualties. Local governor Vyacheslav Chaus told Ukrainian TV on Thursday that Chernihiv is located north of the capital Kyiv and that 53 bodies have been moved to morgues over the past 24 hours, killed in Russian airstrikes and ground action.

At the same time, foreign ministers of the G-7, a grouping of the world’s top seven economies, have called on Russia to comply with the order of the International Court of Justice, in which Russia has been asked to stop attacks on Ukraine and withdraw the army. Top diplomats of the G-7 group condemned the Russian siege of cities, including Mariupol, in a joint statement and called the attacks an indiscriminate attack on civilians.
