New Delhi: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Wednesday that the quad meeting to be held next week has been canceled. Albanese said that the Quad summit in Sydney next week would not go ahead without the US President. Let us tell you that due to the debt crisis in America, President Joe Biden announced the cancellation of his visit to Australia. After Biden’s announcement, there has been news of the cancellation of the quad meeting. The quad meeting was to be held on 24 May in Sydney, Australia.

Albanese said however that the leaders of Australia, the United States, India, and Japan would instead meet at the G7 in Hiroshima later this week. India and Australia are not part of the G7 group of seven rich countries – the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States. But he has been invited to attend the summit, which is scheduled to be held between May 19 and 21.

Anthony Albanese said in a press conference, ‘There will be no meeting of the quad leaders in Sydney next week. Although we will discuss between the Quad leaders in Japan. He said that a bilateral program with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Sydney can still happen. A decision can be taken soon from the Indian side regarding this.

The Australian PM said, ‘We are discussing with the Quad leaders today. We will make more announcements about it, but PM Modi will definitely be the guest here next week.’ In November 2017, India, Japan, the US, and Australia agreed to block any significant sea routes in the Indo-Pacific amid China’s aggressive stand. The long-pending proposal of setting up ‘Quad’ to develop a new strategy to keep it free from influence had taken shape.
