Washington: The US military has for the first time acknowledged the truth of the deployment of the mysterious RQ-170 Sentinel drone (Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel). The drone was developed by the American arms manufacturer Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works as a Stealth Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The US military in Afghanistan, through the intelligence received from this deadly drone, had planted so many bombs on the Taliban bases that it was named ‘Beast of Kandahar’. This is the same drone which was captured by Iran in the year 2011.
America accepted the truth of this drone for the first time
However, the US had never officially accepted the truth about the presence of this drone. This is the first time that the US Air Force has publicly disclosed the deployment of the RQ-170 Sentinel drone. The Air Force’s 432nd Wing at the Creech Airforce Base in Nevada, USA, revealed the deployment of the mysterious Delta Wing-shaped stealth drone earlier this week. In addition, Air Combat Command Commander General Mark Jellie and Command Chief Sergeant David Wade have also given information about the visit to the creche air force base.
Very little information available publicly
Generally, little information about this Lockheed Martin drone is officially available. This drone, which took its first flight in 2007, was first revealed about 2 to 3 years ago. The 432nd Wing of the US Air Force deployed at the Kreech Air Force Base conducts in-house training and other non-combat operations as well as conducting war abroad. Last year, the US deployed this deadly drone of the 25th Attack Group in Romania. Apart from this, the US has also deployed MQ-9 Reaper Drones to keep an eye on this entire area.
This drone works as a spy without weapons
Little information about Lockheed Martin’s futuristic tailless flying wing aircraft is public. The RQ attached to its name suggests that it does not have any weapons attached to it. According to Airforce Technology, this drone, one of the most secretive weapons of the US Air Force, is built in a delta wing shape, with the front end pointed and the aircraft missing a tail. Due to this design, the radar signature of this drone is very rare.
Iran had captured this American drone
On 5 December 2011, Iran captured the US RQ-170 Sentinel drone near the town of Kashmar, Iran. Iran had then claimed that the control of this drone was hijacked by a team of cyber experts from the US. After which the safe landing of this drone was made. Initially, the US rejected the claim, but later the then US President Barack Obama admitted the truth, saying that one of his drones had been shot down by Iran. Later, Iran had also filed a complaint in the U.N. against the US for violating its airspace.
