India Weather Update

New Delhi: India’s weather takes a dramatic turn as the southern states brace for the havoc of Cyclonic Storm Fengal, while northern regions grapple with dense fog and plunging temperatures. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy rainfall and dense fog in multiple regions, signaling challenging days ahead.

Storm Fengal Wreaks Havoc in the South

Cyclonic Storm Fengal is set to batter the southern states with torrential rains. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on November 28, with the intensity persisting through November 29 and 30. Neighboring regions, including Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh, are also expected to witness rain on November 28 and 30. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to take precautions as the storm approaches.

Northern India Shrouded in Fog

Meanwhile, northern India is reeling under dense fog, disrupting visibility and daily life. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR on Thursday and Friday, warning of reduced visibility and a potential drop in morning and nighttime temperatures. The fog is expected to intensify across Himachal Pradesh (November 28-29), Uttar Pradesh (November 28-December 1), and Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana (November 28-December 1).

Cold Wave to Tighten Grip

The cold wave is expected to tighten its grip over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, with a significant drop in morning and evening temperatures over the next two days. Dense fog and cold winds are likely to exacerbate the winter chill, creating difficulties for residents, particularly in rural and open areas. IMD advises people to take necessary precautions to avoid health risks associated with the harsh weather.

IMD’s Yellow Alert for Delhi-NCR

Residents of Delhi-NCR have been warned to brace for denser fog and plummeting temperatures. The IMD alert predicts visibility challenges, with a consequential rise in cold conditions. Authorities suggest commuters exercise caution during early morning and late-night travel as the region experiences an early onset of winter-like conditions.

Western Disturbance Adds to Weather Woes

A new western disturbance is expected to approach the western Himalayan region from November 29, further complicating the weather situation. This could lead to enhanced precipitation and colder temperatures in the affected regions, adding to the discomfort caused by dense fog.

Precautionary Measures and Advisory

  • Southern states are advised to stay alert for potential flooding and take safety measures in light of Cyclone Fengal.
  • Northern states, particularly fog-affected regions, should ensure safe travel and stay warm to combat the biting cold.
  • Farmers and outdoor workers are advised to plan activities around weather conditions, especially during peak fog hours.

As India faces this dual weather challenge, IMD continues to monitor the situation and provide timely updates to ensure public safety.
