New Delhi: Indian cricket team’s leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the top T20 bowler in the world. Bishnoi has reached number one in the ICC T20 bowlers’ rankings, surpassing Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan, who had been holding the top spot since March 2023.
Bishnoi, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL, was at number five last week with 664 rating points. But his performance against Australia in the recently concluded 5-match T20 series was outstanding. He took 9 wickets in the series, which was the highest by any bowler from either side. He also bowled with an impressive economy rate of 6.36 and an average of 14.11. He took wickets every time in his first over in this series, putting the Australian batsmen under pressure from the start.
His stellar performance earned him an increase of 34 points in the ICC T20 bowlers’ rankings. Bishnoi now has 699 rating points, which is 7 points more than Rashid Khan, who has 692 rating points. Rashid Khan had a decent series against India, taking 6 wickets in 5 matches, but could not prevent Bishnoi from overtaking him in the rankings.
Bishnoi, who made his T20 debut in February 2022, has taken a total of 34 wickets in 21 T20 matches so far. He has an impressive career economy rate of 6.25 and an average of 15.76. He is the second Indian bowler after Jasprit Bumrah to reach the number one position in the ICC T20 bowlers’ rankings. Bumrah, who is currently ranked fourth, achieved the top spot in November 2018.
Bishnoi’s rise to the top of the rankings is a testament to his talent and hard work. He has been a consistent performer for his IPL team and his national team. He has also shown great variations and control in his bowling, making him a difficult bowler to face in the shortest format of the game. He is one of the key players for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia in October 2024.
