New Delhi: There is good news for the senior citizens of the country. If you are also traveling by train then you will get many facilities from the railway side. Railways has made a big announcement about this. Railways told Parliament that more than 10,000 trains run daily from the department and they provide many facilities to the senior citizens of the country. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave a lot of information about the facilities available to senior citizens in the Lok Sabha. Giving information, Ashwini Vaishnav said that senior citizens are getting the facility of confirmed lower berths in the train. There is a separate provision in the Railways for this. Female passengers above 45 years will not have to choose any option for a lower berth. These passengers will automatically get a lower berth from the Railways.
This facility is also available to pregnant women
According to the information received from the Railways, 6 lower berths in the sleeper category are reserved for senior citizens, women above 45 years of age, and pregnant women. Along with this, there are four to five lower berths in each coach in 3AC, and three to four lower berths in each coach in 2AC. He further said that apart from this, provision has also been made to give upper berths to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and women who are given upper berths by the onboard ticket-checking staff if the lower berths are vacant in the train.
59 thousand crore rupees given as a subsidy
The government had given a subsidy of Rs 59,837 crore on passenger tickets in 2019-20. He said that on average a 53% discount is given to every person traveling by train. This subsidy is given to all citizens including senior citizens. Apart from this, railways give subsidies to many categories like the handicapped, students, and patients.
