New Delhi: Veteran actress and politician Jaya Bachchan, who recently made a comeback on the silver screen with Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, has filed her nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party has renominated her as its candidate for the upper house of the parliament, where she is serving her fourth consecutive term.
In her election affidavit, Jaya Bachchan disclosed her and her husband Amitabh Bachchan’s combined assets worth Rs 1,578 crore, as per the financial year 2022-23. Mid-day.com says Jaya Bachchan’s net worth is Rs 1.63 crore, while Amitabh Bachchan’s net worth is Rs 273.74 crore. The affidavit also reveals that Jaya Bachchan has a bank balance of Rs 10.11 crore and Amitabh Bachchan has a bank balance of Rs 120.45 crore.
The power couple also owns a huge amount of jewelry and luxury cars. As per a report in Times of India, Jaya Bachchan owns jewelry worth Rs 40.97 crore and a car worth Rs 9.82 lakh. Amitabh Bachchan, on the other hand, has jewelry worth Rs 54.77 crore and 16 cars, including two Mercedes and a Range Rover.
The affidavit also mentions that Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan had gifted their iconic ‘Prateeksha’ bungalow in Mumbai to their daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda in November 2023. A Moneycontrol report stated that the property, which spanned over two plots of 890.47 sq m and 674 sq m, was transferred to Shweta Bachchan through a gift deed, for which a stamp duty of Rs 50.65 lakh was paid. The flat was registered under the name of Shweta Nanda in the Vithal Nagar Cooperative Housing Society Ltd.
On the work front, Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in Ganapath, a sci-fi thriller, and appeared in his son Abhishek Bachchan’s comedy film Ghoomer. He will next be seen in 2898 AD, a futuristic drama, along with Deepika Padukone, Prabhas, and Disha Patani. The film, directed by Nag Ashwin, is expected to be released this year. Jaya Bachchan, meanwhile, will be seen in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, a romantic comedy, with Dharmendra, Ranveer Singh, and Alia Bhatt. The film, directed by Karan Johar, is slated to release in 2024.
