New Delhi: DCGI has allowed Bharat Biotech’s intranasal COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use. This information was given by the Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. This will be India’s first nasal vaccine for corona. The Health Minister said that the regulator has approved the vaccine for restricted use in emergency situations for primary immunization of people aged 18 years and above.

Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted, “India’s fight against Covid-19 has got a big boost. Bharat Biotech’s ChAd36-SARS-CoV-S COVID-19 (Chimpanzee Adenovirus Vectored) Recombinant Nasal Vaccine has been approved for use in the age group above 18 years in case of emergency.”

Mandaviya further said, ‘This step will further strengthen our collective fight against the pandemic. India has utilized its science, R&D, and human resources in the fight against COVID-19 under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. With a science-driven approach and Sabka Prayas, we will defeat COVID-19.

What is Nasal Vaccine?
In this, the dose of the vaccine is given through the nose. The vaccine is injected either through a specific nasal spray or via aerosol delivery.

Completed the test last month
Significantly, last month Bharat Biotech completed the Phase III and booster dose trials of its intranasal COVID-19 vaccine. After this Bharat Biotech said that it conducted two separate trials for the intranasal Kovid vaccine, one as the first dose and the second as a booster dose.
