London: Around 100 Indian students have registered for a new online course on diabetes at a British university. The course focuses on helping people with diabetes and doing new research in relation to the disease.

Birmingham City University has started a postgraduate degree course in ‘Advancing Diabetes Care’ in association with ‘University Hospitals Birmingham Diabetes Team’. The first group of students registering for the course are in India and the pharmaceutical company Lupine Pharmaceuticals will sponsor them.

Dr. Shashank Vikram, Consul General of India in Birmingham, said, “When I was graduating in medicine, at that time in India we used to read about diabetes in the subcategory of lifestyle diseases. Now we have seen the spread of the disease in all age groups, which is affecting people from different social backgrounds. ”

He said, “The students registering for this course are physicians and I wish them all the best.” According to university data, there are about 70 million people in India suffering from diabetes and this course has been designed to research the disease.
