New Delhi: A leading meteorologist and geological expert have warned that the Indian tectonic plate is moving about 5 cm every year. Due to this the tension with the Himalayas is increasing and the possibility of major incidents is increasing. In the coming days, it can take the form of a severe earthquake (India Earthquake Alert). Scientist has warned that tension is accumulating in the Himalayan region and the possibility of a major earthquake is increasing.
According to ANI, on Tuesday, Dr. N Purnachandra Rao, chief scientist and seismologist at the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad, said, ‘The Earth’s surface consists of various plates which are in constant motion. The Indian plate is moving about 5 cm every year. As a result, the tension in the Himalayas is increasing and India is at risk of a major earthquake.
The chief scientist said, “We have a strong network of 18 seismograph stations in Uttarakhand. This region, referred to as the seismic gap between Himachal and the western part of Nepal including Uttarakhand, is at great risk of earthquakes which can strike at any time.’ The National Center for Seismology said that on Monday night An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred 56 km north of Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh at 10.38 am. The agency said that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers from the Earth’s surface.
On the other hand, on February 19, there was an earthquake in Nandigama town of the NTR district of Andhra Pradesh. However, no loss of life or property was reported in this earthquake.
