Meanwhile, Australia’s government is willing to allow the first batch of 300 foreign students to come to South Australia in an effort to revive the billion-dollar international education sector facing the epidemic. Federal Trade and Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham has announced a new scheme under which three hundred students from South East Asia will be allowed to enter Adelaide next month to complete their studies. Before starting studies, students will have to stay in the hotel in a separate residence for two weeks, which will be borne by their university.
Underlining the importance of the international education industry to Australia, Birmingham said, “The scheme has been approved so that we can see if it can be run in this way.” We are confident that we have taken security and precautionary measures. Moving towards next year’s course, we will consider what the impact of our decision is. “
The minister said, “International education is a large service export industry for Australia and South Australia. It employs thousands of people and it is important that we are able to bring international students back to Australia safely. ” According to the latest data, India is the second-largest source of international students for Australia after China and India account for 17 percent of the total foreign students studying in Australia.
