Google’s new policy is being implemented from today (May 11). Google had told last month about its new policy that all call recording apps will be banned from the Play Store. This is because the company believes that recording calls is tampering with the privacy of users.
Because of the same, the call recording feature on Google’s own dialer app comes with an alert ‘this call is now being recorded and is clearly audible on both sides before the recording starts.
In Android 10, Google has blocked call recording by default. So to avoid the ban, Play Store apps started using Accessibility API to record calls. After implementing the new changes by Google from today, this will not be possible.
Google said that Google’s policy is limited to third-party call recording apps on the Play Store only. The native call recording function will not be affected on phones like Google Pixels or Xiaomi phones with Mi Dialer.
So, if you want to use the call recorder feature on an Android smartphone, there are some brands that offer it as an in-built feature on their devices. The list includes Xiaomi / Redmi / Mi, Samsung, Oppo, Poco, OnePlus, Reality, Vivo, and Tecno.
Truecaller removes the ‘call recording’ feature
Let us tell you that a day after Google announced the ban on call recording apps, Truecaller announced the removal of the call recording feature from its platform. A Truecaller spokesperson said, “Per updated Google Developer Program policies, we are no longer able to offer call recording. This will not affect devices that have call recording natively built into the device.
