Colombo: Two 70-year-olds died while waiting for their turn in long queues outside petrol pumps in Sri Lanka. Officials gave this information on Sunday. Sri Lanka is facing a severe fuel shortage these days and a historic crisis of foreign exchange reserves has arisen in front of it.

Colombo police said two elderly people aged about 70 years died on Saturday in the central Kandi district and suburban area of ​​Colombo. According to the police, both were waiting for their turn for about six hours. The severe heat is believed to be the primary cause of his death.

Officials said the government is relying on Indian fuel for relief. Sumit Wijesinghe, president of the state-run Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, said, “Indian credit lines provide us with products such as petrol, diesel, and jet fuel.”

He said that it seems people are hoarding it due to a lack of fuel. He said that before the crisis the daily demand for diesel was 5500 MT and that of petrol was 3300 MT but due to excessive procurement it has reached 7000-8000 MT and 4200 MT respectively. ,
